“Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path.”

-Psalm 119:105

Before You Start

This is a chronological Bible reading plan, which means we won’t read  the books of the Bible in the order they appear. Instead, we’ll read them  in the order the events actually took place. You’ll see how God’s story unfolds across time, connecting people, places, and promises from  Genesis to Revelation. There are several different chronological plans out  there, but to stay consistent with the rest of the church, make sure to use  our plan as your guide each day.  Each day’s reading takes about 12 minutes, so whether you’re reading  in the morning, on your lunch break, or before bed, it’s an easy rhythm  to fit into your day

Don’t Read Alone

We also encourage you to read together. Don’t do this alone, it’s easy  to fall behind or lose momentum. Instead, read alongside your spouse,  kids, family, friends, or small group. Accountability is so important.  You’ll need it, and so will the rest of your group. Sharing what  you’re learning, asking questions, and praying together will make  this experience so much richer.

Bible Versions

When it comes to which version to read, we use a combination of the  NIV and NLT here at Movement City. But ultimately, we encourage you to  choose the version that helps you connect most with God’s Word. If you  grew up on the King James Version and love its eloquence, go for it. If  you prefer the ESV for its accuracy and word-for-word detail, no problem!  The best Bible is the one you’ll actually read and apply to your life.

Digital Plan and Resources

If you’re reading digitally, you can follow along in the YouVersion Bible App using the plan called “The Bible Recap” with Tara-Leigh Cobble. We highly recommend watching the daily videos in the app. They break down the passages, explain the context, and help you understand what you just read. You can also have the app read the Scripture aloud while you follow along, making it even easier to stay consistent whether you’re driving, exercising, or getting ready in the morning. Tara-Leigh Cobble and her team have also produced a ton of helpful resources including podcasts, study guides, and books that can support you on your journey through Scripture

Physical Plan and Resources

If you’re using the printed guide, there are optional companion resources you can purchase online that go deeper into each day’s reading. These printed tools provide helpful explanations and insights that follow the same plan. And if you’d like your kids to join in, there are print resources designed just for them so your whole family can journey through Scripture together

How to Stay on Track

Let’s be honest, life gets busy. There will be days when you fall behind, get distracted, or feel like you’ve lost momentum. When that happens, don’t quit. Don’t let a few missed days turn into a missed year.

If you get off track, just pick back up with today’s reading so you stay connected with the rest of the church. Then, when you have extra time, like a weekend, a day off, or a quiet evening, go back and catch up on what you missed. You don’t have to do it all at once; just steadily make your way back through it.

The key is consistency, not perfection. God isn’t keeping score; He’s inviting you to draw closer to Him. Every time you open your Bible, you’re saying, “God, I want to hear from You,” and that’s what matters most.

It’s never too late to start. Whether you’re jumping in on Day 1 or Day  301, the most important thing is simply that you start.

If you join us partway through the year, begin with the current day’s  reading so you’re in sync with the rest of the church family. That way, you  can follow along with the weekly messages, small group discussions,  and conversations happening across Movement City.

Then, as you have extra time, on a day off, a weekend, or during vacation, go back and catch up on earlier readings at your own pace. This  plan is designed to help you build consistency and understanding, not  pressure or guilt.

Remember: the Bible isn’t going anywhere, and God’s story will meet  you right where you are. The goal isn’t when you start, it’s that you start,  stay faithful, and let God’s Word transform your life day by day.

Absolutely! Listening to the Bible is a powerful and authentic way to  experience God’s Word, especially when you’re driving, exercising,  cooking, or getting ready in the morning.

In fact, most of the people in the Bible didn’t grow up reading the Scriptures, they grew up hearing them. You can use the YouVersion Bible  App to have the daily passages read aloud to you. Hearing Scripture  allows the story to come alive in a fresh way, you’ll notice tone, rhythm,  and emotion that you might miss when reading silently.

Many people find that listening and reading together helps them stay  focused and retain more. The goal isn’t how you take in the Word, it’s  that you do. Whether you read, listen, or both, what matters most is  spending time with God and letting His truth shape your heart.

That’s completely normal, so don’t get discouraged. The Bible is deep,  rich, and layered with meaning. Even people who have been reading it  for decades still come across verses that make them stop and wonder  what God is saying. When that happens, don’t quit or skip ahead. Keep  reading. Many times, later passages help make sense of earlier ones.  The more you read, the more the story begins to connect.

That’s why we recommend following along with The Bible Recap by TaraLeigh Cobble. There are short daily videos and podcasts designed to  help you understand what you’re reading, offering clear explanations,  historical context, and simple takeaways you can apply right away.

And remember, understanding the Bible is a lifelong journey. You  won’t grasp everything all at once, and that’s okay. Just keep showing  up. Each time you open God’s Word, the Holy Spirit will reveal more of  who He is and help you see His heart more clearly

The Bible Recap is a simple but powerful tool created by Tara-Leigh Cobble to help you understand the Bible as you read it chronologically.  Each day’s reading in the YouVersion Bible App is paired with a short video or podcast episode that breaks down what you just read, explaining  context, connecting key themes, and showing how every part of Scripture points to Jesus.

Think of it like having a trusted guide walk with you through the entire  Bible. Tara-Leigh helps make sense of tough passages, highlights  important moments, and reminds you how God’s story connects from  beginning to end.

Whether you’re brand new to Scripture or have been reading for years,  The Bible Recap will help you see the big picture, and fall more in love  with the God behind it. You can watch or listen daily in the YouVersion  app, on YouTube, or wherever you stream podcasts.

Not at all. The digital plan in the YouVersion Bible App is a great tool if  you like reading on your phone, tablet, or computer, but it’s completely  optional. You can absolutely follow along using the printed plan or your  own Bible, no app required. The main goal is that we’re all reading the  same passages each day, whether you’re turning pages or scrolling on  a screen.

The digital version just gives you some extra tools, like the daily videos  from The Bible Recap, reminders to help you stay on track, and the option to listen to Scripture being read aloud. So choose whichever format  helps you stay most consistent and engaged. The important thing isn’t  how you read, it’s that you read.
