The Battle for Our Minds

November 9, 2020

We are human, but we don’t wage war as humans do. We use God’s mighty weapons, not worldly weapons, to knock down the strongholds of human reasoning and to destroy false arguments.

2 Corinthians 10:3-4 NLT

Let's talk about the "strongholds of human reasoning." We live in a society that is being destroyed by human intellect. I recently visited a new graduate from a local university, proud of its reputation for advanced scholarship. The student spoke about the intentional bias in the classroom from a very liberal view of history.

The student was told of the bias and didn't really believe it existed until they tried an experiment. They had a class in which the instructor assigned two papers. The student worked very hard to research and present her first paper with perfect grammar, typing, and well-footnoted research. The paper was present from a conservative viewpoint and received a low grade.

For the second paper, the student did little research, intentionally had multiple typos, and used poor grammar. The student adopted a liberal view of the assigned subject. The grade on this paper was 100.

We must recognize we live in a culture that is battling for our students' minds—and the population as a whole. They want to force us to think as they think and approve an agenda that is counter to the Word of God. We must do battle with these thought patterns.

The battle must start with us. We must control our thoughts and be sure that we align with the Word of God in every area of our lives. Norman Vincent Peale, a popular minister and author, was famous for saying, "Change your thoughts, and you change your world."

We must fight daily to get our thoughts into agreement with God's Word. We must fight negative, destructive thought patterns.

Holy Spirit, I need Your help with my thoughts. I ask You to help me align my thoughts with Your Word. Help me to have thoughts that are pure, positive, and productive.
