God Always Listens
“In those days when you pray, I will listen. If you look for me wholeheartedly, you will find me. I will be found by you,” says the Lord. “I will end your captivity and restore your fortunes. I will gather you out of the nations where I sent you and will bring you home again to your own land.”
Jeremiah 29:12-14 NLT
There is a lot to meditate on in this passage. As I sit to write today’s devotion, I noticed I have written on this passage at least six times over the past several years. But today something new jumped out at me. Three words that are so powerful— “I will listen.”
God listens when we pray!
Have you ever tried to talk to someone, and you feel like they aren’t listening? Or maybe you are in a conversation and the topic is of no interest to you, and you zone out. Then suddenly, someone asks you a question about that topic, and you realize you have been out of it for the past few minutes and have no idea how to respond.
God never zones out when we pray. He always listens. Regardless of who we are, where we have been, or what we have done. God listens to us when we are in a hospital room, a prison cell, or laying in our bed. God listens when we pray.
God wants to bring freedom and hope into our lives. But it has to start with us. We must initiate a conversation through prayer. There is no substitute for conversation.
Prayer is the power source of our spiritual life. Stop praying and you are turning off the gas line to your spiritual engine.
Holy Spirit, help me to be consistent in my prayer life. Help me to make You a priority every day. Forgive me for the times I have been busy or lazy. I want to have You working daily in my life.
