God Keeps His Promises

This is a record of the ancestors of Jesus the Messiah, a descendant of David and of Abraham:

Matthew 1:1 NLT

Matthew writes his gospel with the purpose of proving to the Jewish nation that Jesus is the rightful Messiah and heir to the throne of David. God had made a promise to David in 2 Samuel, chapter seven, that there would be an heir who would reign on David’s throne forever. This promise was not fulfilled until Jesus came to earth, and the return of Jesus to rule forever will complete it.

What we can take from this is that God keeps His promises. Even though there may be delay and distractions—the promises of God will come to pass. Often, they don’t come in the manner we expect or the time frame we expected. But they do come.

Jesus came fourteen generations after David to fulfill the promise to David. It sometimes takes a while from the human perspective.

What promise do you need God to fulfill? Are you trusting in Him to do it? Do you believe He will do it even though there seems like a long delay? Perhaps, that is why we are reminded in the New Testament, “the just will live by faith.” Living by faith is what we do between the promise and the fulfillment.

Holy Spirit, please remind me of the promises of God. Remind me that God is working even when I don’t see it. Remind me to trust in You. Help me to have peace in the process and patience in the waiting.
