Praying for Life-changing Stories
Meanwhile, Saul was uttering threats with every breath and was eager to kill the Lord’s followers. So he went to the high priest. He requested letters addressed to the synagogues in Damascus, asking for their cooperation in the arrest of any followers of the Way he found there. He wanted to bring them—both men and women—back to Jerusalem in chains.
As he was approaching Damascus on this mission, a light from heaven suddenly shone down around him. He fell to the ground and heard a voice saying to him, “Saul! Saul! Why are you persecuting me?”
“Who are you, lord?” Saul asked. And the voice replied,
“I am Jesus, the one you are persecuting! Now get up and go into the city, and you will be told what you must do.””
Acts of the Apostles 9:1-6 NLT
Here we have the miraculous story of Saul’s conversion. As he was on his way to Damascus with papers authorizing him to arrest any followers of Jesus, Saul had a divine encounter with the risen Lord Jesus. Saul would tell this life-changing story multiple times after he changes his name to Paul.
I have often wondered who was praying for Saul. I believe there had to be a faithful believer who took on the burden to intercede for Paul’s salvation. I’m sure there were many wanting Saul to drop dead and stop persecuting the believers. But someone had the faith to ask God to transform Saul’s heart.
Is it possible that the person who seems to be the biggest jerk might be the very person God could use once His grace and mercy have transformed them? Is there someone in our lives who needs an intercessor to believe God to transform them into the person He created them to be?
I believe God created Saul to be a missionary to the Gentiles, a church planter, and a leading theologian of the New Testament Church. His early years seemed to be totally the opposite. But God’s plan was still there.
Let’s ask God to help us see His plan in people’s lives regardless of what the outward mess may appear at the moment.
Holy Spirit, please help me to see people the way You see them. Help me to speak life over their death. Help me to intercede for those who have not yet discovered their destiny in You.
