From Walls to Level Ground

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

When the people heard the sound of the rams’ horns, they shouted as loud as they could. Suddenly, the walls of Jericho collapsed, and the Israelites charged straight into the town and captured it.

Joshua 6:20 NLT

TODAY’S THOUGHT

Verse 20 has always been an intriguing part of the story of Jericho for me. God told Joshua on the seventh time around on the seventh day, the priests were to blow the trumpets, the people were to shout, the walls would fall, and the people would charge straight into the town. And that is exactly what happened.

The interesting thing is they charged “straight into the town.” In my mind, I can picture walls that are twenty feet tall falling and leaving rocks and rubble everywhere. When something falls, there is usually a mess, and you have to be careful where you step to avoid getting cut or hurt.

But God promised Israel they would be able to march straight into the town. Not only was there going to be a miracle of the destruction of the walls, but God was also going to work it out where the walls literally disappeared into the ground. I know that is hard to believe, but let’s face it if God can bring the walls down, is it any greater of a miracle for the walls to sink into the ground?

Perhaps there was a molt around the walls, and the walls just fell into the molt and made a level walking surface for walking straight into the town. I really don’t know how God did it, but I have to believe what the Bible says.

The application I see is that when God works in our lives to bring down the walls that have been blocking us, those walls will become our steppingstones to victory. Instead of them being a barrier, they will be our blessing.

Get ready to march straight into your promise. As we trust and obey God, we can see the walls come down, and we will be able to walk straight into our promises.

TODAY’S PRAYER

Holy Spirit, help me today to trust and obey even when I don’t have all the answers. Help me to be ready to walk into my promise.
