I have told you these things so that you will be filled with my joy. Yes, your joy will overflow!
John 15:11 NLT
If you were commissioned to paint a picture or take a picture of overflowing joy, what would it look like? Think about it for a minute.
When I thought about it, I imagined a young child at play on a swing being pushed by a loving parent or grandparent back and forth. The child is laughing with the thrill of the ride. Laughter is filling the air.
To me, the child is a picture of overflowing joy because they have nothing to worry about. They trust the adult to protect them, and they simply enjoy the ride.
When we trust that our Heavenly Father is in control and taking care of us, we should relax and enjoy the ride. We should be able to laugh and have some fun.
When we question God’s love, protection, provision, or power, we get concerned about the ride. We allow anxiety and worry to steal our joy. We begin to think we are in control and have to fix everything. This leads to a dangerous path of fear that blocks all joy.
Jesus loves us. Jesus died for us. Jesus rose again. Jesus is in control seated at the right hand of the Father. All power and authority have been given to Jesus. As long as we stay connected to Him, we are going to be okay.
Holy Spirit, please help me to remember that You are in control. You are working for me. You are working through me.
