Faith and Action

A woman in the crowd had suffered for twelve years with constant bleeding. She had suffered a great deal from many doctors, and over the years she had spent everything she had to pay them, but she had gotten no better. In fact, she had gotten worse. She had heard about Jesus, so she came up behind him through the crowd and touched his robe. For she thought to herself, “If I can just touch his robe, I will be healed.” Immediately the bleeding stopped, and she could feel in her body that she had been healed of her terrible condition.

Mark 5:25-29 NLT

Faith often requires action!

This passage introduces us to a woman who had been suffering for twelve years with a bleeding disorder. Not only was she physically sick, but she had fallen into poverty trying to pay for a cure.

In her desperation, this woman heard about Jesus. Evidently, she had heard that Jesus was a miracle worker, and the power of God was flowing through Him. She decided to come up behind Jesus and touch His robe. She had faith to believe that if she could just touch Jesus’ robe, she would be healed.

Some got a personal audience with Jesus because of who they were, and He came to their home and brought healing. Others in scripture would cry out for Jesus’ attention. But this woman knew she had no standing to make such a request. But she did believe in the healing that was available by just touching His robe.

God honored the faith of this desperate woman. Immediately, the bleeding stopped, and she knew she was healed. If you read the rest of the story in the Bible, you discover that Jesus called her out and let her know her faith was what made her whole.

The New Testament tells us that faith without works is dead. Sometimes, we are called to do more than pray and believe; we are called to act in faith. We are called to put ourselves in a place where we can encounter the power and presence of God.

In the book of James, we are told about calling the elders of the church to anoint us with oil. That is an action to put with our faith. Other times we are told about having others lay hands on us and pray for us.

Is there an action God is inviting you to do to receive your healing?

Holy Spirit, show me the path to my wholeness. Help me be willing to do whatever it takes to live in the wholeness You have for me. In Jesus’ name, I declare that by His stripes, I am healed.
