What to Leave with the Donkeys

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

On the third day of their journey, Abraham looked up and saw the place in the distance. “Stay here with the donkey,” Abraham told the servants. “The boy and I will travel a little farther. We will worship there, and then we will come right back.”

Genesis 22:4-5 NLT

TODAY’S THOUGHT

Abraham is making a trip to sacrifice Isaac in obedience to God. An altar of sacrifice is the place where man connects with God. Abraham realizes some people will not be able to go up the mountain to meet with God. So, he tells the servants to stay with the donkeys while he goes up to worship.

There are some things and some people in our lives we must leave behind if we want to discover the fullness of Who God is. We can’t carry our sins into the presence of God, nor can we take some relationships. So, some things that must be left with the donkeys.

When God invited us to be a part of His family, He challenged us to be holy. That word means “to be set apart.” To be holy doesn’t mean I am perfect; it means I am working to separate myself from anything that would hinder my relationship with God.

Is there anything in your life that you need to leave with the donkeys?

TODAY’S PRAYER

Holy Spirit, please help me today to leave behind everything holding me back from Your work in my life. Help me today to let go of anything and anyone that would hinder me from encountering You in a new way.
