Opening Your Heart to God
This same Good News that came to you is going out all over the world. It is bearing fruit everywhere by changing lives, just as it changed your lives from the day you first heard and understood the truth about God’s wonderful grace.
Colossians 1:6 NLT
If you watch the news, you can get really discouraged at the wars, hatred, economic crisis, and trouble in our world. It can be depressing. But here is some good news—times of tension and transition are the times people become open to the reality of God.
Historically, times of prosperity produce complacency in people in relationship to spiritual things. People think they are invincible and can handle everything themselves.
Then comes times of struggle and some things people can’t control. The pain and discomfort of problems cause people to become more interested in spiritual things. People begin to realize our limitations. We begin to search for hope in a God Who is bigger than our pain.
God does not cause wars and pain. But God does use them. Wars and pain are caused by fallen man’s selfishness and corrupt thinking. But God can use them to bring revival to the hearts of hurting people.
Next time you hear of another devastating situation, just begin to pray for people’s hearts to be open to the reality of God. Pray that God will allow you to be a part of bringing transformation to those in need.
God is working all over the world. Ask God to show you how you can be a part of His work.
Holy Spirit, show me what I can do to be a part of Your work in my world. Help me to be sensitive to Your desires in my world.
