The True Vine

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

“I am the true grapevine, and my Father is the gardener.”

John 15:1 NLT

TODAY’S THOUGHT

The concept of a grapevine is used throughout the Old Testament as a metaphor for the nation of Israel. The picture is that God intended Israel to be a vine that would produce fruit to bless all the nations of the world. But Israel failed. She was the vine plucked from slavery in Egypt to be transplanted in the Promised Land of Canaan only to become a wild vine with bad fruit.

Then God sends His Son, Jesus, to be the replacement vine for Israel. He is the “true” vine.

Only by being attached to the vine can we produce the fruit that God intends in our lives. We must stay attached to the vine and allow His life to flow through us.

TODAY’S PRAYER

Holy Spirit, please help me to allow the life of Jesus to flow through me. Help me produce Your fruit in my life.
