Growing Faith

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

So be truly glad. There is wonderful joy ahead, even though you must endure many trials for a little while. These trials will show that your faith is genuine. It is being tested as fire tests and purifies gold—though your faith is far more precious than mere gold. So when your faith remains strong through many trials, it will bring you much praise and glory and honor on the day when Jesus Christ is revealed to the whole world.

1 Peter 1:6-7 NLT

TODAY’S THOUGHT

How does our faith grow?

Faith grows in the struggles of life. Looking back on my life, I realize it was the tough times that built my faith, not the easy times. In the tough times, I had to be consistent in prayer, Bible study, and corporate worship. I was leaning heavily into God’s presence. Those were the times when God was strong and active in my life.

I believe God works in our lives in specific patterns to develop our faith. First, God gives us a dream and then a delay. During the delay, we will face circumstances and critics. The circumstances and critics will try to discourage and weaken our resolve to see God’s dream fulfilled in our lives.

If you look at the life of great leaders in the Bible, you will see they faced all kinds of circumstances and critics. Moses comes quickly to mind. When he led the children of Israel out of Egypt toward the Promised Land, he faced a shortage of food, a shortage of water, snakes, and attacks by even his own family members. Yet, Moses kept moving forward toward his destiny.

When we choose to face the circumstances and critics and keep moving forward, we will discover the destiny God has for us. I’m not saying it will be easy, but it will be worth it.

TODAY’S PRAYER

Holy Spirit, help me see the dream You have for me. Help me to be faithful even in difficult times. Help my faith to remain strong in You.
