Sharing Freedom

And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.

John 8:32 NLT

How can I best help those around me live in freedom? The answer is that I have to be willing to share the truth with them.

I don’t help people live in freedom by telling them to do whatever feels right. Our feelings have been corrupted by the sin that has entered the human equation. What feels right at this moment often leads to a lot of regrets and shame the next day. Living by feelings is choosing temporary pleasure over long-term fulfillment.

True freedom is found only in getting my life in alignment with God’s Word. God’s Word is truth. It is not up for a vote or a re-write. Generations of people have argued for centuries that God’s Word is outdated and needs to be made more culturally relevant. (Yesterday, I listened to a sermon preached in the mid-1800s where the preacher was addressing those claiming the Bible needed to be updated to be more culturally relevant. We aren’t the first generation to face this argument.)

Our human brain has the remarkable ability to twist God’s Word to justify almost anything we want to do. We have to overcome that urge and instead humbly allow the Holy Spirit to inspect our hearts with the truth of God’s Word. Then we have to be willing to lovingly share God’s truth with our world.

Attacking people with God’s Word is never going to change a life. If there is no love in our truth-sharing, it comes across as judgmental and harsh. But if we love people, they will know it.

Let’s combine our love with God’s truth. Then we will have a platform on which to see lives changed.

Holy Spirit, help me know Your Word. Help me live Your Word. Help me share Your Word with those in my world who need freedom.

Scroll down to share what you feel God is saying to you based on today’s reading.
