Worship Anyway

But as for me, I will sing about your power. Each morning I will sing with joy about your unfailing love. For you have been my refuge, a place of safety when I am in distress. O my Strength, to you I sing praises, for you, O God, are my refuge, the God who shows me unfailing love.

Psalm 59:16-17 NLT

The fifty-ninth Psalm is full of great truth. David opens by telling God about all the people that are coming against him. His life is full of conflict and attacks. In the midst of those problems, David makes a wise choice, “Each morning I will sing with joy about your unfailing love.”

David learns the secret of singing in the pain. Anyone can sing when they get a raise, a new job, or win a prize. But it takes a person of faith to sing in the middle of pain.

The ability to sing in our pain is what gets us through the painful times of life. We have to make a choice to worship God even when we can’t see God working.

If we live long enough, we will have moments when we wonder if God is doing anything. We will wonder if God still loves us and is willing to work for us. But by faith, we choose to sing worship to the Lord—and then our hearts are connected to His heart.

The choice to worship during the struggle is the choice to be a winner. It is the choice that will open the doors of heaven to pour out favor and blessing. It is transformational because it takes our eyes off the pain and problem and focuses on the Problem Solver.

Holy Spirit, today I choose to be a worshipper. Regardless of my circumstances, I will worship You. I will sing praise to the God of my salvation.
