And the one sitting on the throne said, “Look, I am making everything new!” And then he said to me, “Write this down, for what I tell you is trustworthy and true.”
Revelation 21:5 NLT
Cindy loves to watch fixer-upper shows. Occasionally, I will join in watching one and am always intrigued by someone’s ability to take an old, run-down home and transform it into something better than the original. These types of shows are incredibly popular.
I think part of the popularity of the shows is we all like to see how something that appears broken down can be restored and beautiful. It is the story of God’s redemptive love and work in each of our lives.
God created the earth, and everything was beautiful. Sin entered through Adam and Eve and broke everything. Then, God sent Jesus Christ to restore the broken relationship between God and man and begin the transformation of the world.
In our passage today, God is speaking from His throne. He is declaring that He is making everything new. This is a promise and a declaration—it is happening right now.
As we pray, we can believe that God is making everything new right now. We may not yet see it in the physical realm, but God is working right now to make things new. He is restoring what has been broken and is tearing down walls of division, jealously, hatred, misunderstanding, and fear. He is putting in new support systems and removing old barriers.
God has a plan He wants to work in us and through us. We need to open our lives and ask the Holy Spirit how we can cooperate with God’s beautiful plan.
What areas of your life need a remodel? Perhaps, it is time to begin to ask God to make something new in your life.
Holy Spirit, please show me the areas that need to be made new in my life. Help me today to open my life to what You want to do. Help me to see Your plan. Help me to yield to Your work of making new things in and through me.
