Heart Condition

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

God blesses those whose hearts are pure, for they will see God.

Matthew 5:8 NLT

TODAY’S THOUGHT

There is a key issue in our times of prayer that we must not overlook. It is the condition of our heart. If our heart is not in the right place, our prayers will be messed up. We can actually be doing the right thing for the wrong reason and get the wrong results. We can be praying, but if our heart is selfish, our prayers will be selfish. If we have known sin, then our connection to God can be clogged up.

I heard one man say that if we take care of the shadows in our lives, then God will take care of the spotlight. If we allow pride, selfishness, materialism, greed, lust, or other sinful attitudes in our hearts, then we can’t connect with God properly. We must allow the Holy Spirit to cleanse our hearts during our times of prayer.

Prayer is always about becoming more like God. Spending time with God shapes my thinking and priorities so I begin to live His life. I begin to function on earth as things function in heaven. His kingdom is ruling in my heart and life.

I find so many imperfections in my heart when I spend time in prayer. I recognize areas where I have to repent and ask for help to change. I never want to think that I have arrived, that I have achieved some perfection in myself. Without God’s grace working in my life, I am in serious trouble.

TODAY’S PRAYER

Holy Spirit, search me and show me the areas that need adjustment in my heart. Give me a pure heart. I want to see Your kingdom come and Your will done on this earth. Let it be done in and through me.
