Keep Praying

Then he said, “Don’t be afraid, Daniel. Since the first day you began to pray for understanding and to humble yourself before your God, your request has been heard in heaven. I have come in answer to your prayer. But for twenty-one days the spirit prince of the kingdom of Persia blocked my way. Then Michael, one of the archangels, came to help me, and I left him there with the spirit prince of the kingdom of Persia. Now I am here to explain what will happen to your people in the future, for this vision concerns a time yet to come.”

Daniel 10:12-14 NLT

Daniel is our example of prayer and fasting. He had been reading the words of the prophets and realized it was God’s timing for deliverance for the nation. He began to fast and pray to ask for direction and understanding. It took 21 days for the answer to come.

Realize for a moment that for 21 days there was no word from God. No answer to his prayers. It would have been easy to give up and decide that prayer doesn’t work. What if Daniel had given up on day 20?

But on the 21st day, an angel showed up and told Daniel that on the first day he began to pray, the answer was sent from God. So why did it take 21 days to get to Daniel? There was a battle in the spirit realm where Satan and his demonic forces were attempting to block God’s answer from reaching Daniel.

This example is why it is crucial to commit to continuing to pray until the answer comes. We can’t stop when we get tired or distracted by other stuff. We must be people who humble ourselves and pray until the answer comes.

I have worked with a prayer list for over 30 years. There are some people on my prayer list that have been there for years as I am waiting for God to transform their lives. There are things I am believing for our church that have been on my list for 30 years—I’ve seen partial fulfillment but not a total breakthrough yet. I refuse to give up until I see God’s work completed.

Often, we have to learn to not only ask God for our request, but we need to take authority over the spiritual forces that are attempting to thwart the will of God. Jesus has given us the authority to use His name against the spiritual forces of darkness. We can speak against demonic forces in Jesus’ name and command their influence to be broken. And then, we can begin to praise God for the answers by faith before we see them manifest in the natural realm.

I’ve started thanking God daily for things that haven’t yet manifested in the physical realm. By faith, I know God is working even when I don’t see Him working.

In Jesus’ name, I declare that God is working in and through me today. I come against every spiritual force of darkness that would hinder the will and work of God in and through my life. I give God praise today for His miracles in and through my life.
