All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is our merciful Father and the source of all comfort. He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us.

2 Corinthians 1:3-4 NLT

Henry Ward Beecher said, “Compassion will cure more sins than condemnation.”

God did not send Jesus into the world to condemn the world. Jesus came to save the world. He brought salvation into our lives because He left the glory of heaven to lower Himself to earth. He chose to walk among His creation and become one of us. He became one with us so He could help carry our sin and pain.

If we are followers of Jesus, shouldn’t we be doing the same in our world? Shouldn’t we be carrying the load of pain, sickness, disappointment, and injustice with those in our world?

If we want to see God work in us and through us, we must develop compassion for the hurting and lost. Compassion is a word that means “to suffer with”. We can’t have compassion from a distance. Compassion happens when we commit to getting personally involved in someone’s life. We choose to help carry their hurts.

Is there someone in your world that needs compassion today? What can you do to bring comfort to them?

Holy Spirit, please help me to be a person of compassion in my world. Help me bring comfort to others.
