Our Focus

We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith. Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now he is seated in the place of honor beside God’s throne.

Hebrews 12:2 NLT

What I focus on determines what I see!

I know that sounds elementary but take a moment to think about that comment. In the previous verse to this passage, we are told to remove all sin from our lives because it will trip us up in the race God wants us to run. Then the writer gives us the formula for doing that—keep our eyes on Jesus Who is “seated in the place of honor beside God’s throne.”

We all know there is a physical realm and a spiritual realm. Because the physical realm is so obvious to our senses, we often focus only on this realm. When we focus only on the physical, we miss the spiritual realm.

We are told we need to shift our focus from the physical to the spiritual. We need to let our focus be on Jesus Who is ruling in the spiritual realm.

Whatever I face today or tomorrow, Jesus has already conquered. He conquered every power of hell on the cross. He conquered every temptation on the cross. He conquered every sickness on the cross. He conquered poverty on the cross. He conquered depression, worry, and fear on the cross.

When I pause to focus on the spiritual realm, I begin to see victory in my life instead of problems and defeat. I begin to live like an overcomer because Jesus says I am an overcomer.

Holy Spirit, help me focus on the spiritual realm so I can see Your victory in my life today. Help me realize Jesus has already won my battle.
