Joy – Foundation
For he remembered his sacred promise to his servant Abraham. So he brought his people out of Egypt with joy, his chosen ones with rejoicing.
Psalm 105:42-43 NLT
Frequently in the Psalms, David reminds himself and us of the victories God brought on behalf of the children of Israel. He likes to write about the children of Israel being delivered from Egypt. He tells us they were brought out with joy and rejoicing.
When the Bible opens, we are told that God looked at His creation and said everything was good. That is why there is great joy found in creation. But sin entered the human equation and began to corrupt creation. All around us we see the results of sin in human relationships and nature itself.
Daily we encounter the consequences of sin that corrupted God’s perfect creation. But we can still be full of joy because we choose to remember the promises of God. God has prepared a great future for us. We get to spend eternity with Father God in heaven.
We should never allow our present circumstances to determine our joy. Our joy is built on the person and character of God. This is why we can rejoice in difficulty, persecution, pain, and loss. Our joy is in Jesus.
Holy Spirit, please help me focus on the promises of God and the provision He has made for me through the Lord Jesus. Help me to choose to rejoice every day.
