Luke 15:25 NLT
I pulled this passage of scripture right from the middle of the story Jesus told in Luke 15. It’s about a father with two sons. One chose to leave his father’s house and waste his money and life in wild living and sexually immorality. The other stayed home.
The son who left eventually came to his senses and returned home, repentant and humbled. The father welcomed the returning son with a party to celebrate his return. The party included music and dancing.
The brother who stayed at home got angry that the father was celebrating the return of a son who wasted so much.
Jesus told the story to show us how our Heavenly Father responds to us when we humble ourselves and seek His forgiveness and freedom. Sometimes we have the mentality of the other brother—we think there should be sorrow and mourning for the waste of bad choices. But God’s wanting to throw a party with music and dancing.
When we repent and return to God, He celebrates. His grace throws a party. There should be a celebration when we experience God’s grace.
Holy Spirit, please help me celebrate God’s grace in my life and in the life of others. Help me not have a judgmental attitude toward others or myself. Help me accept God’s grace.
