Don’t Live in the Past
“I am the Lord, who opened a way through the waters, making a dry path through the sea. I called forth the mighty army of Egypt with all its chariots and horses. I drew them beneath the waves, and they drowned, their lives snuffed out like a smoldering candlewick.
“But forget all that— it is nothing compared to what I am going to do. For I am about to do something new. See, I have already begun! Do you not see it? I will make a pathway through the wilderness. I will create rivers in the dry wasteland.”
Isaiah 43:16-19 NLT
One of the most amazing miracles of the Bible is God’s deliverance of His children from 400 years of slavery in Egypt. God called Moses to be His handpicked leader to approach Pharaoh and instigate a process that would result in two million children of Israel walking out of Egypt.
Then, God caused Pharaoh to chase them to the Red Sea where God opened the sea for the children of Israel to cross on dry ground. As the Egyptians tried to cross the sea, God closed the sea and drowned Pharaoh and all his army.
Through Isaiah, God gives a promise that He is about to do something that is beyond anything of the past. He is making a new path and releasing fresh water in places that have been “dry wasteland.”
As important as it is to remember the miracles God has worked in the past, it is equally important to remember God has more miracles now and in the future. God is always wanting to do new works in the hearts and minds of those who are in tune with Him.
Let’s not allow ourselves to focus so much on the past that we miss the current and future revivals God wants to bring. History tells us the ones who miss the present move of God the most are the ones who experienced God’s last move. We tend to protect our memory of the past as if that is all God has for us now and in the future.
I want to be one who is thankful for the past but living toward the future. I want to be a part of the miracles God wants to release today. I want a fresh move of God that flows through my life helping me be a part of His movement that is transforming my city one life at a time.
Holy Spirit, please move in me and through me. I want a fresh move of Your presence in my life. I want to be a part of Your present-day movement.
