“You are the salt of the earth. But what good is salt if it has lost its flavor? Can you make it salty again? It will be thrown out and trampled underfoot as worthless.”
Matthew 5:13 NLT
We have been studying the functions of salt. We have discussed that salt preserves and enhances. Today, we look at the third function of salt—it entices.
Years ago, I was teaching about the two functions of salt from Matthew, chapter five. After the class, a cowboy friend came up to tell me salt has another function. I asked what it was, and he told me, “You’ve heard the old saying, ‘You can lead a horse to water but you can’t make him drink.’” I nodded. He then said, “That’s not true. If you put some salt in the horse’s oats, he will beat you to the water to drink.”
A powerful thought. When we function the way we should (like salt), we should be enticing people to want to come to the living water of Jesus. People should see something different in the way we live, in our marriage, our relationships, our work ethic, our humility, our servant’s heart, and our joy that makes them want to know our Jesus.
Is your life enticing others to want to know Jesus?
Holy Spirit, please help my life be attractive to others so they will want to know You. Help me to live a life that draws people to Jesus.
