The Importance of Being Connected

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

In fact, some parts of the body that seem weakest and least important are actually the most necessary. And the parts we regard as less honorable are those we clothe with the greatest care. So we carefully protect those parts that should not be seen, while the more honorable parts do not require this special care. So God has put the body together such that extra honor and care are given to those parts that have less dignity. This makes for harmony among the members, so that all the members care for each other. If one part suffers, all the parts suffer with it, and if one part is honored, all the parts are glad.

1 Corinthians 12:22-26 NLT

TODAY’S THOUGHT

Many times in the New Testament, followers of Christ are referred to as the body of Christ. Paul uses the analogy of our physical bodies to the spiritual body of Christ. He is making a point that even though we are all different, we all need each other.

The Bible commands mutual accountability, mutual encouragement, mutual serving, and mutual honoring. We are to be accountable to each other. Every one of us needs relationships in our lives that can keep us on track. Our human nature tends to drift, and we need those who will pull us back into alignment with God’s Word.

We also need those in our lives that will encourage us. We all have times when we need encouragement. We need to be uplifted and strengthened by a friend.

We also have times of need or weakness when we need someone to serve us. And other times when we are the one serving.

The Christian life was never intended to be lived in a vacuum. We must be connected to a local body of believers and be living in authentic, meaningful relationships. We can’t survive cut off from the body.

TODAY’S PRAYER

Holy Spirit, please help me to live my life connected to Your body. Help me find those I can serve, be accountable to, encourage, and honor.
