Let your conversation be gracious and attractive so that you will have the right response for everyone.
Colossians 4:6 NLT
If Paul were living in this day and age, I think he might have written the passage like this, “Let your conversation and social media post be gracious and attractive….”
I know it is not right to add to the scriptures, but I do think it is okay to apply the scriptures to our present circumstances. It seems that so many people use social media as a means to attack, debate, and argue. I have never known of anyone who became a follower of Christ because they lost an argument about whether people should wear a mask or be forced to have a shot.
Do we properly represent Christ when we bash politicians or political parties? While there are occasions where we need to take a stand on an issue, let’s not choose those moments to attack people. Let’s be gracious and attractive in what we say and post.
The only people that Jesus verbally attacked were the religious leaders. He never attacked sinners or the heathen. He showed them love and acceptance—without compromising the truth. It was the religious people in their quest to prove how holy they were to others that Jesus attacked. Their false spirituality and lack of humility infuriated Jesus.
There are way too many people who claim to be followers of Christ who are attacking others in His name. Let’s strive to be gracious and attractive in our response to everyone.
Holy Spirit, please help me to be gracious and attractive with my posts and comments. Help me to speak with truth in love. Forgive me for those times I have been harsh or judgmental.
