All the believers devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching, and to fellowship, and to sharing in meals (including the Lord’s Supper), and to prayer. A deep sense of awe came over them all, and the apostles performed many miraculous signs and wonders.
Acts of the Apostles 2:42-43 NLT
The Holy Spirit is poured out in a new way. Peter teaches so that everyone can understand what is going on. Then over 3,000 people repent of their sins, and the church is born.
In our passage today, we get the priorities of the New Testament Church—teaching, fellowship, and prayer. The new believers instantly began to form a community around their faith in Christ. They listened to the apostles teach about the life of Christ and connect His works with the Old Testament prophecies.
The result of this simple formula was many miracles began to happen in and through the new body of believers.
The model of New Testament Christianity is not something we should be doing once a week. We should be building our lives together through sharing meals and talking about what God is doing in our lives.
So many modern followers of Christ consider giving an hour or two a week their total investment in the kingdom of God. These early believers were building their lives together daily.
Somehow in the busyness of life, we must be intentional about doing life with other believers. We must prioritize the teaching of the Word, fellowship with believers, and prayer.
Holy Spirit, please help me to rearrange my life around Your priorities. Help me connect in meaningful relationships with other believers regularly—not just once a week.
